Knitting Projects: Dice Pouch Pattern

Today I wanted to share with you a little pouch I made to hold the dice I use when I play dungeons and dragons with friends. One of the most interesting aspects of D&D is the mingling of fantasy with reality and the notion that you become your character. Nerdy yes, but also engaging and unique. Dice and dice bags are common ways to personalize the game and add elements of your character's personality.

My first and thus far only character, Athalia, is a human cleric who has left the priesthood and is now a traveler. In my mind she is practical and into what I see as natural art - textiles. Knitting being one of the most special ways to create something both practical and beautiful I decided my character would of course have a hand knitted pouch. A medicine bag of sorts.

Here is what I came up with, you can find the pattern below. I used Purl Soho's beautiful shiny silky soft Mulberry Merino for this project.

Row 1: K30
Row 2: K30
Row 3: K30
Row 4: *K5 Bind off 1* repeat to end of row
Row 5: *K5, inc1* repeat to end of row
Row 6: K30
Row 7: P30

Repeat rows 6 +7 until bag is desired length,  ending with a knit stitch. Check bag size by doubling over knitting. Mine was 70 rows of stockinette.

Row 77: K30
Row 78: *K5 Bind off 1* repeat to end of row
Row 79: *K5, inc1* repeat to end of row
Row 80: K30
Row 81: K30
Row 82: Bind off

Finishing: Using a tapestry needle seam bags together using stitch of choice, I did a blanket stitch. Sewing wrong sides together and turn inside out when finished. For drawstring, braid 3 strands together and then thread through the holes in the garter stitch. Tie together and fill with your dice!
